International Master - Rohan Ahuja
My name is Rohan Ahuja, and I am a chess International Master from India. On my website, I intend to spread my knowledge of the game and share some of my experiences with all of you. I am also a Software Developer, and have developed different chess-related applications that you can try out (see apps section).
Here is a timeline highlighting some of my achievements over the years -
2006 - Started playing chess at the age of 8
2009 - finished in the prize list for the National Under 11 Championships
2009 - won my first open tournament
2011 - won the Goa State Under 13 Chess Championship
2010, 2011 - finished in the prize list for the National Under 13 championships
2011, 2012 - won several open rapid tournaments in my state
2012 - won the Goa State Chess Championship (Seniors)
2012 - won 3 Bronze medals at the ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships (U-14 Category)
2012 - won the Goa State Under 15 Chess Championship
2013 - had my first Grandmaster draw in classical chess at the Bangkok Chess Club Open
2013 - won the Goa State Chess Championship (Seniors) for the second year in a row.
2013, 2014 - Played a simultaneous exhibition against 30 players, winning every game.
2014 - captained the Goa State Team to its highest ever finish (8th place) at the National Team Chess Championships
2014 - won the Goa State Chess Championship for the third consecutive year, earning the right to retain the Smt. Hirabai Salgaonkar trophy.
2014 - won the 1st Mushtifund Sports All India FIDE Rated Rapid Chess tournament
2015 - got my first International Master (IM) norm at the Mumbai Mayors Cup, also getting my first Grandmaster win in classical chess.
2015 - awarded the title of FIDE Master by the World Chess Federation
2015 - achieved my second IM norm and crossed 2400 FIDE rating at the Baku Open held at Azerbaijan.
2015 - achieved my third IM norm (and therefore, my International Master title) at the PSC/Puregold International held at the Philippines.
2015 - achieved a fourth IM norm with a 2546 rating performance at the strongest open tournament in the world - The Qatar Masters Open.
2016 - Officially received my International Master (IM) title from FIDE
2016 - Ranked among the top 100 Juniors in the world
2016 - played a blindfold simultaneous exhibition against 3 players and won every game.
2017 - Received the Pepsi-Cola Chess Fellow Scholarship from University of Maryland - Baltimore County (UMBC)
2017 - Tied for first at the UMBC Championships
2017, 2018 - Represented UMBC at the Pan American Intercollegiate Chess Championships
2018 - Won the Southern Class Chess Championships held in Florida
2018 - Tied for first at the Berkeley Summer Invitational (IM section)
2018 - Tied for first at the Maryland Action Rapid Championships.
2018 - Finished first at the CCCSA Fall 2018 Invitational (IM section)
I graduated in May 2021 from University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a B.S. in Computer Science.
